It was held at the beautiful BMW auditorium at fed square, so if the talk was not your cup of tea, you could still enjoy the views of the Yarra river and/or the geometric architecture and snazzy wood panelling. Lucky for me i actually loved the talk and didn't have to rely on the ambiance for entertainment.
As i entered the venue i was greeted with a (this time opened) bottle of chinotto. As you all know I'm quite clumsy and naturally also struggled with this. As i sit down at my seat (4 rows behind Grant Pearce) I manage to knock over the opened bottle of delicious beverage. The contents cascade out and onto the polished wooden floor to my despair. Not only is it a waste of chinotto, but i look like a dick... so the entire talk i sat in a puddle. I got a tad concerned when the drink started traveling to the row behind me, the girl was frantically moving her bags around trying to save them. Awkward.
Anyway, there were four speakers, the first was Mark Ritson, Consultant & Associate Professor of Marketing for University of Melbourne & consultant to LVMH. His presentation was predominantly about brand identity. Australia is a very stable country, he was saying, and that our market is controlled by oligopolies, only 2 major competitors ie. Coles and Woolworths, meaning that companies like that are totally unprepared for competition from other countries. He was also talking about the importance of knowing your brand and who the target market it is. This means market research and analysis. Exclusivity means it has to exclude. The example he used was brand Abercrombie & Fitch and their iconic 'all American' college hunk, which quite frankly isn't that many of us.
The next speaker was Erin Mullaney, Founder & Director at ECM Fashion Consulting. Talked mostly about her experiences as a buyer for UK department giants Brown's, Selfridges and Harrods as well as well as a brand consultant for Christian Louboutin. She was saying that it is important to have a good team. Designers often don't have the business brains and may make the wrong decisions, this underlines the necessity for a business partner who can make the right decisions. People need to stick to their strengths. Erin also talked about the need to be forward thinking and innovative, she spoke about all the projects she did, ie. collaborations with designers or pop up stores and how all that is important for a company to stay relevant in a fast moving fashion world.
Peter Harris, President of the Pedder Group, Hong Kong, was the third speaker. His talk was about the importance of details. The devil is in the detail. He started with a personal anecdote about how he received a hand written birthday note when boarding a long flight and receiving a selection of macaroons in his hotel suite upon arrival after a 5 hour flight delay. His point was that personal touches like that can make an experience memorable and create consumer loyalty. He was telling us about the Lane Crawford Hong Kong flagship store, saying that the reason why it is the highest performing store is because of 6 reasons:
- Great store design
- Shopping suites
- Concierge desk
- Service teams
- Edited Product Offer
- Visual Merchandising
The last speaker for the afternoon was David Bush, the General Manager of Womenswear for David Jones. He spoke about the importance of a brand. He called it 'a collection of memories that make a purchase'. The first experience of a brand is always memorable, weather its good or bad. He also talked about how a brand must differentiate between its competitors and stay relevant to the time for it to be successful. Making long term decisions that are calculated and smart means that a brand can evolve as it needs to.
So as a whole, not too shabby...
On Monday night was the 'fashion full stop'-decades of fashion and music show. As you can imagine I made it my mission to attend. It was definitely an interesting event. It was held at the Exhibition building, for those of you who don't know, its a massive beast of a space with the classic stage and ascending half-circular seating (a fun little fact for you guys). The show was a retrospective of Australian fashion from the 60's till today. Every iconic fashion statement throughout the past 50 years was shown, and in between spurts of runway fashion was either a song from our idol Guy Sebastian, Mark Seymour, Russell Morris, Josh Abrahams, Metals, Owl Eyes, Marcia Hines and much much more or dance performances from groups: The Squared Division and the Australian Ballet.
I was seated in some side section, and the more i squinted the more i could see. Then i realised that i am media (woo!) which qualified me to move around freely to capture great moments as they occurred. Now they kept telling us that we must move around... HA! this was not the case. i managed to park myself directly at the end of the stage at the side and did not budge. My shitty little camera was not coping with the distance from my original stealthy paparazzi position. And from the new pap spot i got great views of the stage, models and the dancers crotch as she was pelvic thrusting to Olivia Newton John's 'lets get physical'. It was a beautiful moment. I was also kicking myself because i decided to wear my white Ombre Margiela jeans that night, and well crawling around on all fours as to not obstruct the view of others can be a nightmare. God bless Napysan.
Anywho, here are the pictures:
Wandered around for half an hour, took the scenic root to Penthouse Mouse at shed 4 you might say. Once finally there we were greeted with so much art, fashion and alcohol, it was great! The space was huge and filled to the brim with the wacky works of art and the wacky people that make the art as well as the wacky visitors. Having bought a jacket that same day, i was in no financial position to drink, i relied on the kindness of others, lucky Jac from Upper Left Arm gave me a drink card. <3<3<3<3<3 after that i would have tipples from other peoples drinks, when they weren't looking... hehehe
on Thursday night was the Upper Left Arm launch at Comeback Kid, i unfortunately had a delightfully long studio class at uni from 1:30-9:30... AT NIGHT!!!! 8 hours of continuous pattern making and sewing. By the time the clock ticked over to the 7pm mark, i was already a distant memory in class, just a light breeze tailing my elaborate exit strategy. (i left my stuff on the table, so they would think i just ducked out to the toilet or something). Ingenious!
what i had planned to a be a drive-by shooting, turned out to be just over an hour of socialising. i tried to look at the clothing but it was difficult because of the sheer volume of people. From the glimpses the clothing looked great. I'm digging the ULA hats!
These types of events can be so intimidating, everyone had a camera, and not like a little shitty digital camera like me, but a bloody professional SLR, with a variety of paparazzi lenses and flashes. i felt like i was a character in those hideous early 80's 'Porkey's' movies, where the guys typically compare their private parts in the locker rooms, and unfortunately my Samsung L210 definitely didn't rise to the challenge... no pun intended!
Other than that the ULA launch was fun i then ran back to uni, slipped back into class and pretended i was never out. the perfect crime!
Afterwards the party continued at the Carlton club. I had a few drinks with my friends and just as i was about to leave, a giant group of incredibly well dressed and quite intoxicated people popped up the stairs. The Comeback kid crew managed to persuade me to stay for one more drink:
Pat "vlad stay for one more drink"
me "ok!"
*Gretta and i wet kiss*
clearly they worked hard to persuade me... hahaha
I had such a great chat with Jean from stud farm, it really nice to see beautiful, talented and above all genuinely nice people.
1 beer and 3 shots later i was walking back to Flinders St station in a much more cheery disposition.
all in all, a good night!
here are the pictures from my wonderful camera:
Welcome back to the wild and wacky world of shifting identities *cracks whip as lion jumps through a flaming hoop*, its been a long time my good friend, but I'm back with a vengeance.(I can almost hear the one hand clapping in anticipation and excitement)
I had my cousin and uncle visiting from Russia for a month so I've had my hands full. It's true what they say about old people, they become like children. My uncle has just hit his terrible twos again and was out of control. I wanted to put him on a leash, doesn't speak a word of English and an absolute menus in public. More about that in another post. They flew out on Sunday and i couldn't be happier! *cracks open a bottle of Moet...* OK, I'm not totally heartless. I will miss them. But at the moment all i can think about is having my bed back! No more saggy fold out couch/bed.
Now that hey have gone back to the old country I can concentrate on uni and this blog! WOO!
Today I attended the LMFF media and blogger conference/briefing. Yes, its that time of year. Fashion week is basically on our doorstep, knocking politely. I swing the door open and with a warm embrace the madness and excitement begins, or so I hope... (I can't quite tell you why I imagined it to happen like that.) I thought I was running late so I was power walking to the LMFF HQ FYI... burned off half a calorie. This exercise proved that I am unfit, the one flight of stairs I scaled took more out of me than it should have, but luckily i was greeted with a welcoming and thirst quenching chinotto.
After the briefing I am so excited about this one, first of all because we may all die in 2012, so it may be our last, but mainly because of the events planned by the LMFF team. Grant Pearce creative director of the festival and Editorial director of GQ explained the role LMFF plays in the Australian fashion industry and how unique it is in regards to other fashion weeks around the world. I kept getting distracted by the beautiful lapels of his incredibly sharp suit... (I die for a good bit of tailoring. D.I.E.), so my recollection of the talk is a bit hazy, but what I do remember is that there will be dancers, and lots of Australian fashion. One of the most interesting events during the week will be the business seminar. Guys, if you can score a ticket I highly recommend going to that. The speakers sound incredible: Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz, creative directors of BALLY!!! Jefferson Hack, editorial director of THE DAZED GROUP!!!! Mikael Schiller the CEO of ACNE STUDIOS!!! and Jan Nord and Jörgen Anderson from ESPRIT!!! not bad for li'l ol' Melbourne, eh? By the amount of capital letters I've used it sounds like an ad for Dimmies and Forgers... haha, but seriously it's an opportunity not to be missed.
The opening to the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 'Fashion Full Stop.' promises to be a party in the pants. Created by designer and stylist Michelle Jank, 'Fashion Full Stop.' is a retrospective look at Australian fashion from the 60's to now. The colossal hall of clothing was amazing. It was like Dame Edna had exploded onto about a bajillion racks. No words. Just pictures.
so I'm home with my parents for the Christmas break, and i'm ready to kill myself and them. i've been home for 2 days and i've got my finger on the trigger. Now, just before i get into the another rant, you should probably know that Russian's are not quiet people, the more you love someone the louder you must yell at them over insignificant things such as crumbs or not changing into 'home' clothing the second one walks through the door. Crazy is not the word to describe my family. I'm sitting here in the arm chair watching Heston's feast on youtube and my mother decides that my mac is giving off radiation and i may get cancer. this naturally provokes an argument. She loves watching today tonight and other current affair programs, where any topic has to be sensationalized, eg: 'is your tea pot trying to kill you as you sleep? we uncover the ticking time bomb that the manufacturers don't want you to know', and hence has a extreme point of view on any form of technology or household appliance. we even have a magnet taped to the tap, so that the water is magnetized and thus healthier. This argument went on for longer than normal, my dad even tried to play the 'dumb' card by patronizingly asking me weather i know the difference between standby mode on a computer and off. He even tried to fool me, by saying: 'i don't know the difference, can you explain it to me..?' YESS DAD, OF COURSE I'LL EXPLAIN IT TO YOU, YOU ONLY SPEND EVERY SPARE MOMENT OF YOUR TIME ON YOUR 2 COMPUTERS, INSTALLING VARIOUS PROGRAMS AND AD-ONS. ITS AN EASY THING TO NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE OF STAND BY AND OFF...!!!!!!!!! i find the fact that they decided to paint my room, naturally the days that i will be there, slightly amusing. It's not like the paint fumes are toxic. i feel like I'm sleeping inside a bottle of amle. But my parents had an issue with macbook's radiation. Anyway, silent treatment is the next step in resolving a family feud, so the taping of my fingers on the keyboard of my mac as i write this is the only noise resonating through the tense, paint fumed air of the family home.

Anyway, back to the original point of this post! I got myself a Christmas pressie, a Comme des Garcons persona collection blazer dress. i am so happy!!! it is one of the prettiest things i have ever seen in my life. basically the premise of this collection was the juxtaposing traditional menswear pieces with classic womens wear in a Frankenstein manor. my delightful friend is a beautiful black, velvet trimmed blazer with two slits in the front chest panels with a delightfully kitsch black brocade dress sewn in. the dress is twisted over so its kinda hard to wear, but as far as i know, Rei intended the dress to hang in the front like an extra person. it makes me feel a touch like a Siamese twin. i've been watching mad men a lot and decided that that is the styling for the outfit post. For the record im wearing, Comme des Garcons blazer/dress, shirt i made myself, black Jack London suit pants, Dries Van Noten elastic shoes and vintage Persol sunglasses. I took the pictures in my delightful mansion around the lovely lady of the house. hope you all like them.
PS. now that I'm ready to post this, the argument that i had with my parents is over. Its like nothing ever happened.
My name is Vlad, i am the author of this blog. Not a very good one seeing as i haven't posted a scheric of a post since August!!!!
Sorry.
But i would like to thank you guys for leaving me nice supportive comments while i was away (mentally). it really made me feel guilty (so, well done) for neglecting this blog like that spur of the moment sale purchase that in the heat of the ecstatic atmosphere seems necessary to my very existence, but alas is another pair of ridiculously uncomfortable and feet mangling shoes that will now sit ceremoniously in their box along with all the other past season dregs, that have accumulated in my wardrobe... hmm, apparently i have issues.
so anyway, i finished uni for the year and have now moved up one notch in the social hierarchy that is RMIT Fashion. Only 2 more years left! woo! *fist pump*. This year all the 2nd year students had a fashion show at the GPO. We got the opportunity to either have a performance piece or be part of the runway. being the egocentric person that i am, i chose performance piece. before i get into that i should probs explain my final prototype.
This semester we were learning about the traditions of tailoring and the techniques involved. i was in the fancy pants experimental class and so as a result my tailoring outcome was an experiment. my proposition is a garment that comes as a flat sheet of fabric that can be assembled with the use of zips to construct a blazer. its a very simple concept that looks quite effective especially in a performance art arena. I did a shoot with my bezzie Ci, and here it is! Also I'll try and put up the video, but its on facebook and I'm not sure if that will work...
Vlad
ps. sorry again for being such a flakey bitch tit and not posting.
I have just become independent, a free spirit, a dove set free into the clear blue sky that is my new house aka Mansion de la Footscray. Just moved in and I am so excited to be able to run my own life. This is the reason why I haven’t been blogging because there were quite a few issues and unforseen circumstances that threw a myriad of spanners in the works. One particularity enjoyable one was the night before the signing away of our lives, not 1, but 2 people pulled out!!!! So that was fun to deal with, but its all fine now. Mostly everyone is in place, we still don’t have a tea pot which makes my mornings challenging, I’m sleeping on an inflatable mattress and haven’t even started thinking about managing my wardrobe, but I’m not complaining. We have a 2m tall Venus sculptures in our entrance hall…finally my surroundings match my inner self. hahahaha
Anyway Wednesday night was the ‘Romance was born’ launch. I made it my job to be there. Surprisingly it wasn’t as packed with wankers as the previous exhibition I went to. That was very refreshing. Also the fact that black was not in abundance. Shock horror!!! Even I, yes I, a person that even has black sheets…mmmm sexy like a panther… wore colour, and not like a dull shade of burgundy, but like bright digital printed glory! The flips side of this was that I blended into the incredible ‘Romance was born’ wall paper, just a tad. The exhibition was really cool and from my understanding they were launching their new digital print which consisted of faux taxidermy creatures. The creatures were then displayed on baroque style side tables. It was fantastic! The champagne kept flowing and we all had a blast. Aileen and I went to dinner after and I was still drunk when I got home. I’m pretty sure I fell out of the cab. I definitely was judged by the driver. Lol
Anyway here are the pictures:
sorry about the late post... its becoming a trend... tisk tisk vlad.
Anyway, last week, maybe even the week before i went to the Julia DeVille and William Llewellyn Griffiths jewelery exhibition 'Nights Plutonian'. Look, what can i say, there work is amazing. there work has a very unique and identifiable aesthetic that works brilliantly together. Julia used animals that she taxidermied herself to create wonderful hybrid sculptures cross jewelery, and William used animal skeletons to create these entrancing moving circus scenes and jewelery installations. It was all so morbid and yet so fun. There were so many bits and pieces that i would happily house in my humble abode. lol The crowd there was quite fascinating. I felt like i was at a fashion funeral, kinda like in Zoolander when 3 of Derek's house mates died in the gasoline fight. It was a sea of black, lots of Miyake pleats, Rick Owens distressed leather and drappy silks. Unfortunately not all of them were as nice on the inside as they were on the outside. I got all excited to be in such an intensely visual environment that i want to take picture for you guys. I was so intimidated, gave myself a pep-talk just get myself in the media zone. lol What can go wrong? People are nice, right?...apparently they're not. So i walk up to the guy with two piggy tail plats and an awesome leather jacket with giant eyelets and kindly asked him if i could take his picture, he looks at me, slightly convulses and shakes then turns away and continues with his conversation. WANKER. Didn't even say anything. If he said, 'no thank you' i would have been totally fine, some people don't like photos. But no he was a cunt. So that naturally threw me off and as he was the first person i asked. If he was the second or even third person, i would have brushed it off and kept going. Oh well. so i had another complimentary drink and just took some picture of the art. And here they are:
waddup?
just thought i'd post some of my uni work. this is my first semester prototype. we had to create a complete outfit consisting of at least two pieces with a concept and etc. My concept is called paper cuts. I wanted to create garments with a non traditional fabrication method and so instead of sewing i glued most of the seams together. the glue i used was quite stiff and as the layers of fabric built up created a kind of skeleton structure. i then slit the fabric horisontaly to create a net like texture. I was facinated how the slits in the fabric undermine the structural itegrity of the glued garment making it colapse. Lol wanky fashion speak! We also had to make A1 posters for our assesment and naturaly i ran out of time to have a photoshoot with a model so instead i masking taped the garments to a white wall and took pictures, and here they are: hope you guys like them!
Check me out! I'm actually posting!feel the good vibrations...
So this last Friday was Jack Mac's incredible 21st birthday extravaganza! He set the bar quite high *sweats nervously*. its OK, by the time its my 21st people would have forgotten his, yeah? Some how i don't think so. Pretty much was one of the best parties i have ever been to. He hired out a wear house along with a mandatory and what seamed like never ending tab, hello good times!
needless to say we all got quite inebriated, what class? the result was one powerful hang over and a lasting memory of a great night out! We even had a guest tribute performance to Lady Ga Ga by drag star Millie Minogue. fab.
As the drinks progressed the more our behavior got inappropriate. i may or may not have been violated by Greta, but fear not, i violated her right back. Even Steven.
My new alligator leather clutch came out, said hello for its first public appearance. was a nice moment, and not that you guys care, but i was not wearing all black for the first time in ages!! head to toe gray, with my translucent boots. Yeah i was fly. Workin' what my mamma gave me. Then i got trashed and in true Pats and Edie style stumbled home. Mmmm living the life.
Anyway here are the pics:
i have finally finished with assessments and i am free on my holidays! woo! So i finally have time to blog!! so much has gone on, life changing purchases, obscenely fun times along with ridiculously stressful moments where i couldn't help but have a private cry to myself.
Anyway all this if finito, and now it seams like the roller coaster (can it get even more cliched?) that is life has smoothed itself out and i am in calm blue waters. Thank you Oprah.
So the purpose of this post is to document a certain someones, Greta from Comeback Kid's birthday shindig. So much fun! She is an old fashioned hoot! On the way to this glam-fest i realised that i left me camera at home. Nice one, dickhead! So i frantically, well not frantically as i do travel for like an hour from my house to the city, so leisurely downloaded the Hipstermatic app for my iphone to make the pictures look all indie alternative because im supper cool like that... Ha!
Once there we danced to a bit of the late great MJ, they even had a memorial tiki style tribute sculpture in his honor. As soon as Madonna popped onto the stereo there was no holding back, leave your dignity at the door. Mad gyrating and vogueing was a must. Go hard or go home. And hard we danced, after 'Vogue' i realised how truly unfit a actually am. i had to have a cheeky sit down whilst trying to sort out my 3 stitches and surprise hernia. lol, but as soon as 'Like a prayer' began i knew that this power pop ballad deserved justice, and deep down i know that somewhere in some London high security kabala center Madonna was smiling. Needless to say it was a fun night. Unfortunately it was so fun that i lost my favorite sweater. that was sad, it was like losing a child. a week later i went back to the store and my baby was there!! waiting patiently for me! i could not have asked for a better outcome. so good!
I know its been quite a while since my last post, 3 weeks to be precise. I'v just been quite the busy bee with uni. And its not like i don't have anything to post, iv been shopping again. So many unnecessary items of clothing have now worked there way into my wardrobe. The parents are thrilled... Anyway, i supposes this being a personal blog, makes it ok for me to bitch, vent if you will. The other day the most depressing thing happened to me. I went to my friends Sally and John's going away drinks after uni. Got caught up and being the drunken dick that i am, got locked out of uni. (the going away was quite sad, had a private tear to myself.) Anyway, All my uni work was left on the table, in a neat pile above my bags. The next morning i arrive bright and early, at a time where normal people aren't even thinking about leaving the comfort of there beds, walked into the classroom to find that some cleaner has decided to over zealously clean that room, and by over zealously i mean throw away my patterns for my prototype. But not only patterns, but drafts and intermediates as well. So that was awesome. After my little meltdown, (kicked a chair and felt tough) i cornered a cleaner on the balcony and demanded answers. Conveniently he knew nothing of the crime. What seriously confuses me, is that the cleaners are instructed to NOT clean the tables, only the ground. My things were all together in a pile, not splayed out around the room, AAAnd the room i was meant to be in the next morning looked like someone had obsessive compulsively hauded a lifetimes worth of chocolate wrappers and skangles of calico. Apparently instructions in English are harder to understand... Anyway, angry racist outbursts aside, i have no choice but to catch up, so that's what I'm going to do. Bliss.
Hokay dokay, Here is one of my newer items. A pair of thigh high black Augusta boots. I know what your thinking: 'what an appropriate choice for a 19 year old guy.' Its funny how i can justify any purchase to myself...lol anyway, here are the pictures
:D
It is Easter Sunday as i write this, went to midnight mass last night. So Easter is like the biggest celebration in the Orthodox calender and thus i went to church. Mum has been cooking for the past 3 days, so the house smells incredible. OMG, gust thought you should know. We have this Easter cake thing that everyone makes, its called Kulichi, and only last year did i find out the actual meaning of it. stemming from the pagan traditions its symbolic of a penis!!!!! hahahaa, yep and its displayed with eggs, decorated with white icing... Amazing right? Anyway not gonna bore you guys with my once a year religious experience.
Anyway, my next episode of fashion DIY is up. You can watch it here, if you like... lol i look so strange, kinda mangulated from some angles, so that's always fun! And this morning i woke up to my first ever ebay purchase! really excited! just need to work pay pal out, then i am set!!! anyway, my posts are becoming shitter and shitter. i need to do a good one soon. :S
So I've just been working like crazy at uni for the last few days. Well to be honest, I've been quite lazy with uni, and only now that have written out a 'to do list' do i realise how fucked i actually am. LOL. So this week off during Easter will actually be *shudders*, a study break. Iv got FML syndrome big time. I'm participating in the City of Stonington fashion show, supported by the Butterfly foundation in 2 weeks. Its basically an event to promote healthy body image. Everyone sees the irony in that, but its for a great cause and I'm happy to participate. So basically iv got to make one more outfit quick sticks! I'm putting in a men's shirt that i made for an assignment this semester. That shirt caused me a bit of stress. Spent the entire day sewing it, gave myself crippling back pain being hunched over the sewing machine, but i was proud of it. I then got home, sat down on my bed, got my quick unpick out and whilst cutting open the button holes, i fucked it. Sliced a hole in the stand. Where the top button goes. Right in plain view. So i put the shirt down, walked to the fridge in silence, and started eating. Good times!
Anyway, here are some pictures of me from fashion week! (its all about me!) lol courtesy of Jamie and Comeback Kid.
Part 3 (very delayed)Hey there, so i realise its been forever since PHM was a go, but here is the third installation of that event lol. This time it was a fashion show! to be honest it was so long ago that iv totes forgot the story that was meant to go with it. Awkward. but anyway, here are the pictures:

PS. I went to fashion week, snuck into the student 'Metamorphosis' show, and was lucky enough to sit in the second row!!! so excited about life! the graduate students work was amazing, i seriously was grinding my teeth with intimidation and fear. then the next day i got a email saying that i will be reviewing the menswear show for thevine.com!!! it was so good, you can ready my review here. If you like, no pressures. LOL. I got there semi late so all the front row seats were taken so i had to sit in the 4th row, which is still pretty good considering i didn't actually pay. My Comme skort had a second outing which was good. Need to justify the purchase. Anyway better go do homework, which is slowly consuming my life.
During the week went to a launch of the new Trimapee Collection at the store in QV building. I mustered up some courage and wore, for the first time, my Issey Miyake pleated pants. lol They are a very peculiar shape that billowed in the wind. It was quit interesting the number of looks I got from people as I walked from the station. I quite enjoyed wearing the pants, but they are such an iconic identifiable piece I cant wear them too often. When I bought them I full well new I wouldn’t wear them every day, but I loved them as a collectors piece, like an artwork. They have such a simple design: two geometric ‘C’ shaped pieces of polyester laser cut and straight sewn together, then diagonally pleated. The idea is fantastic, because the pleats accommodate to every body shape and make the garment drape in such interesting fantastic ways. I’v tried to wear it as a top, which is half successful, because I don’t have the use of one arm when I do that but I suppose that’s called suffering for the art. At the actual launch was quite nice. Nothing other than the normal free beer and people dressed in black situation. I wandered around with my friends, it was pretty fun. The clothing was drapey, black and leathery as per usual. The center of the store had a 4 mannequin installation display of the new collection, which was quite apocalyptic and androgynous. Later that night some person, who I know and quite frankly couldn’t care less about said to me: “that skirt and boot combination is 2 months too late.” I found that amusing because for one I was wearing pants, secondly he actually thought I care about what he thinks and would benefit from his input. I truly hate people who are so elitist and for what? I pity him. I know that he is insecure, I know enough about him to be able to rationalize his comments. Being a narcissistic faux suicidal wanker cant be easy.
And on that angry rant i'm going to go and finish my homework.
Part 2hey guys!
omg look at this, two days in a row and posting! You might be getting me confused with an actual blogger. haha I'm feeling so proud of myself. *blushes* Anyway, im going to try and get all these backed up posts out of the way. i feel kinda lame posting about these things that happened last week because i just did a round of the blogs and everyone has already committed themselves and done the civil duties as bloggers. But not i... until now
Anyway so the next thing that was on in the Pent house Mouse series of events was the fashion raquet hosted by Pat and Gretta from Comeback Kid. It was really quite fun. We chatted for a brief second about life, her boyfriend, who conveniently happened to have had 'food poisoning' this time, and couldn't make it. hahahaha, reminds me of my days in highschool, where my fictitious 'girlfriend' lived far away, and no one had ever seen her, but she existed and i wasn't gay! hahaha We also chatted about my pathological shopping disorder and 'who im wearing this time'. I am in fact turning into Edie from ab fab... im just one DKNY tracksuit and a pair of Lacroix clip-ons away from the total transition. LOL
Anyway, the evening was great, Architecture in Helsinki DJed but i wouldn't know because as per usual i missed out on the action because i was smoking. Don't judge me i'm giving up...slowly. lol
well here are the picture:
ps. i need a new camera, mine has once again become a dirty slut. what should i get?
cheers, vlad
Part 1Hi there,
So its fashion week here in little old Melbourne and naturally, me not being organised am not attending any shows. So I'm trying to make up for it in fashion parties. And i need some where to wear my new purchases. This time i went with my Comme Des Garcons skort, more like Papua New Guinea islander dress with a fold of fabric creating a descreat pant like shape in a tartain printed polyester. Also i had on this $6.50 tee shirt i baught at a convinience store with a massive tiger on the front, and my cherry docs. I felt special. Anyway, the first show i attended was the Pent House Mouse. It was set in an ex military/naval base in the city, had a nice rustic wood paneled charm. I got there late and missed out on the free beer and had to pay $7 per beverage. Was a touch disappointed. There was some interesting art installations. My personal favorite was the Mahican tepee made out of floral cloth. As we were sitting inside some models poped in and started filming for some show. Wouldnt have a clue what its for but we sat there engaged in polite conversation (saying watermelon repetedly and chucling, apparently thats what your meant to say to look normal) pretending not to notice the camera. After that we migrated to the other sections of the venue. I stayed there for about an hour because i was just so tired and not in the mood to socialise with people (it had been a long day, too much public transport). my frinds kept patying on, im told it got messy...
anyway, here are the pics! stay tuned for the next wave of posts before another dark hole of lazyness.
So, i just watched the movie "Where the wild things are" (as you may have guessed by the title of this post). Such a sweet movie. The monsters looked so real. I was really impressed (which to be honest, isn't saying much cos a surprised kitten impresses me).
The movie actually freaked me out at times, when some characters would undermine Max causing rifts in the group. I loved the scenes of destruction party because they remind me of recent nights out.
The other week me and my friends went to a Lederhosen themed party. 'What could possibly be wrong with men in short leather pants?' we thought. I even stayed up till 2am super gluing braid onto leather just to gain free entry. We should have turned away when we saw a topless 60 year old man in leather pants and nipple clips and a beard leaving that seedy seedy seedy gay club. But no, we persisted. there were no under 30's other than us. Nothing will be able to wash away the memories of that club. PROJECTING DIRTY PORN IN SEPIA TONE DOESN'T MAKE IT ART HOUSE!!! Wow, started talking about a innocent children's movie and now i am onto this. Nice.
The only way we could psychologically cope with the surroundings was to be drunk. And drink we did. Until the lube on the stripping pole and scattered condoms weren't at all disturbing. We hit a point and turned into little monsters. Nothing was safe. Every skin toned elongated balloon was popped, nibblies thrown everywhere, glasses shattered, all this whilst looking fantastic dressed as Austrians. After a short stint in hell, we left and on the way to another club we found an abandoned warehouse... Yep you guessed it! We ran in and climbed the stairs, i distinctly remember the sound of shattering windows. It was so cool! Imagine doing a shoot there... after that we parted ways and went home. Which was for the best because i had work the next day. mmm see im responsible!
Coincidentally, my latest op shop purchases lend themselves quite easily to this theme. I found this Amazing brown mohair cardigan and amazing pair of English men's clogs. Soooo good and all from one Savers hawl. Winter here i come!!
Anyway enough ranting, Vlad. Here are the pictures:
you may have realised by now that i am horrendous with the concept of posting on time. I just keep forgetting/dead after work. So now that im not working this week (last week before uni stars) im going to give it my all and post as many posts as possible. Also i did realise that i never ended up posting the first Fashion DIY video for The Vine that i did. Iv already filmed the next one and am filming another one his week, because im such a celebrity and TV personality... My name will be in lights soon! Watching the video i have realised that my hair style (at the time) is not my friend. Its kinda like a quiff with baby ponytail. I thought that having my hair back would make me look younger. I was going for 13 so that Tavi and i could be bff's. LOL I was wrong. Instead it highlighted my bird like features. My nose to face ratio and excess neck skin is deffs on the fix list. Might DIY it... haha *awkward*
Anyway iv changed my hair, still working on the face but here is the video anyway plus some stills:
ok, so i realise that i have a problem, weakness in character some would say... Yes, i bought another pair of shoes. but these ones are really cool so dont judge me to harshly, please. hahahaha
I am proud to say that im becoming more and more excentirc. This point only hit home when my friend Izabel said to me: "You can wear that crochet table cloth as a top", to which i said: "Nahh, maybe a bit to much for me". She then laughed and reminded me of my choice of skorts and shoes. So here are the shoes in all there glory!
But i'll give you a bit of back ground on the shoes, so i dont sound like a total maniac. These shoes are from the Yohji Yamamoto 2001 spring collection in which he collaborated with Adidas. This collection was the front runner for the Y-3 brand which was later launched in 2003. These shoes were part of the main line and thus are pretty special. I think they are so cool, because they are ridiculously comfortable and on top of that I'm nearly eye level with normal people when i wear them. I'm just trying to work out what to wear them with and how fast can i run in them... hahaha
ps. I'm not wearing tights, i photoshoped my feet out of the pictures. FYI
:D
sorry about my laziness, its becoming an issue. I finally got myself in the zone and did a outfits post about my recent acquisition, because apparently i don't know how to stop spending. The other day i made a joke about seeing a psychologist about my pathological need to buy more pretty little things, and my mum, in all seriousness agreed. Its not a problem... yet, *says while trying to shut the wardrobe doors* In this particular outfits post i happen to be wearing all my toils from first year fashion. probably wouldnt wear them out of the house, or in the house for that matter, but i did today! So most of the things are samples we did to learn how to sew that i pinned to myself. FYI, needles are sharp and pointy... yeah, painful at times.
Anyway i suppose you guys want to hear about my acquisition? No? well im gonna talk about it anyway, hahaha. The other week i got a amazing pair of Comme Des Garcons shoes. If a ballet point slipper had sex with a brogue, this would be their love child. They are made from a rough calico with a fine leather lining. Trez Chic. hahaha. When i first put them on, my hear skipped a beat, fitted me perfectly-ish. bit tight along the sides because i have duck feet, so it could have been the reason for my circulation issues. Rei certainly knows how to do it. Amazingly simple yet beautiful and interesting shoes!
PS. im actually quite nervouse about this post because im venturing into face whoring... *breaths into paper bag* i just thought that as i will be featured in some episodes of the Vine.com.au DIY fashion, i should get used to my face in the public domain. :SSSSS STRESSSSSSSS
anyway, got a few more post lined up. :DD
